How security works
Get a quick overview of how security works in Vernon CMS to control access to information and features.
Users and groups
Security in Vernon CMS is organised into users and groups.
-
A user is the username that allows someone to log into Vernon CMS.
-
A group (or security group) is a collection of users who have the same level of access to information or features. Groups let you manage multiple users at once. Vernon CMS comes with three built-in groups: Public, Cataloguer, and Supervisor. You can change the settings for these groups or create additional groups.
Access to information and features
Groups of users have access to information and features. We call this datafile security and process security.
-
Datafile security controls who can create, delete, view or modify records (such as Object records).
-
Process security controls the features that a user can access. For example, tools, windows, and menu items.
Planning your security setup
We recommend that you get together with senior staff at your organisation to plan who needs access to Vernon CMS and what they need to do.
