Item Count field

The Item Count field records the number of items which are represented by an Object record.

How this field works

The Item Count is different to an Object Part. For example, if a tea set is made up of a teapot and 4 cups, you could record an Item Count of 5. In contrast, a part is generally considered to be a separable piece of an object that is necessary for the object to be complete, such as the lid of a teapot.

If you are using Group and Member relationships for objects, be careful not to double-count items by entering the count on both records.

It is up to your institution to make a decision about what can be considered a part and what is a separate item.
