Create a supplementary rights group

You can create supplementary rights groups that are based on functionality, not users.

Overview

Supplementary rights groups are generally used by institutions with a high number of users, or institutions with complex security requirements.

You might create groups with the rights for:

  • Location transactions

  • Viewing and editing valuation information

  • Bulk-importing and deleting images

  • Editing Activity files

Each user could belong to multiple groups to give them the appropriate rights.

For example, a user might belong to:

  • The Cataloguer group (to edit records).

  • An Image group (to bulk import images).

  • An XML Import group (to use the XML Import tool).

Steps

  1. Go to Tools > System Maintenance > Security Tool.

  2. Click Groups.

  3. In the Name field, enter a name. For example, Valuation Rights.

  4. In the Description field, describe the rights allowed for this group. For example, This group can view and edit the Object - Valuation window and use the Bulk Valuation Update tool.

  5. In the Subordinate field, click Add and select Public (or your organisation's group with the least rights). This allows users to log into Vernon CMS and access basic functions.

  6. Click Allow More Processes.

  7. Select all of the processes you want to allow and click OK. For example:

    • Menu Database Object Copyright & Valuation

    • Menu Tools Bulk Valuation Update

    • Window Object Copyright & Valuation

  8. Click Save.

You can now add users to this group.
