Set your conflict-checking preferences for activities

You can check for conflicts between Activity records that are linked to Object records.

Overview

A conflict is a scheduling overlap where two or more activities will happen at the same time.

You can set Vernon CMS to check for conflicts in two ways:

  • Report Conflict

  • Report Conflict in Clusters

Report Conflict

The Report Conflict option will:

  • Check all objects that have been linked to the current activity.

  • Look at all other activities that have been linked to those objects.

  • Compare the dates of the current activity to the dates of the other activities that have been linked to the objects.

Vernon will show you any scheduling conflicts where the dates overlap.

Report Conflict in Clusters

The Report Conflict in Clusters option lets you check conflicts for activities that appear in clusters. Clusters are any activities that are directly linked to each other in the Objects & Activities window.

For example, you may have a Condition Report record that is linked to an Outward Loan record. These two Activities work in parallel so you wouldn't want to the system to present them as a conflict. In this case, you would not tick the Report Conflict in Clusters option for the Condition Report record.

Note: The Report Conflict setting overrides the Report Conflict in Clusters setting. You will need to have both options ticked to enable Report Conflict in Clusters.

Steps

  1. Go to the Tools menu, then System Maintenance, then click Activities Configuration.

  2. Under Conflict Checking, in the Report Conflict column, select this option for Activity files that you would like to check for conflicts.

    • There may be activities where a scheduling overlap makes sense. For example, it is likely that insurance policies recorded in the Insurance file might overlap with loans and exhibitions.

    • Don't select this option for activities where you don't need to be warned of conflicts.

  3. In the Report Conflict in Clusters column, select this option for Activity files where you would like the system to check for conflicts.

    • The system will check for conflicts even when the two activities are directly linked to one another, as well as activities that are linked by sharing a common object.

    • Don't select this option for activities where you don't need to be warned of conflicts.

  4. Optional: In the Conflict Check on Save column, you can select one of these options:

    • No: Records can be saved regardless of conflicts.

    • Warn: Users will see a warning message about conflicts.

    • Prevent Save: Users will be prevented from saving records until the conflicting dates are changed.

  5. Click OK.
